What is cuttle bone??
Cuttle bone is not a bone its a inner shell of cuttle fish, its a squid like creature. It helps to float that creature on water. Cuttlebone contains 85% of pure calcium. Nothing can give your bird better source of calcium than this. It gives more calcium than eggshell but you have to boil and heat eggshells in high temperature to make them pure but you have to do nothing like this with cuttlebone. Many people also use calcium blocks. Calcium blocks are mainly made of plaster paris and edible colours. Plaster paris contains calcium but not the pure form also eating calcium blocks can results in calcium overdose. This same can happen when you are giving calcium supplement in water. Over dose of calcium can cause kidney disease and heart problems in birds. So, friends please avoid artificial calcium lets discuss what cuttle bone gives to your bird.
Calcium
Cuttle bone contains pure form of calcium. Its very necessary for eggbinding. Birds can not bind their eggs properly without proper source of calcium. Calcium also essential for bird's beak, and bone build up.
Beak Healthy
The outer lair of bird's beak grows everyday in a very slow rate. You can see wild birds rub their beaks against perch while sitting on it. By doing this they just removes the extra lairs of their beak but in captivity they can not get the perfect rogh surface to rub their beak so, if you give cuttlebone in cage then they will both eat it and rub their beak on the rough surface of cuttlebone. This give their beak a perfect shape. A overgrown beak cause problem to birds while they take food. Human society of united states also recommends cuttlebone for the safe use for birds.

1) Iron - helps to produce red blood cells.
2) Potassium - helps in normal heart and muscle function.
3) Zinc - inc immune system.
